2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT® – Ultimate Driving Machine
Reviewing the new The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee we find a”Street Racing “machine. While not recommended for street racing it is designed in the family of the famous Dodge SRT Viper with racing technology and has a lot of the technology incorporated from that winning race car.
This is a very special SUV with a special designed powertrain to excite those who want a more powerful SUV . New for 2014 is an eight-speed transmission and improved paddle shifters on the steering wheel for maximum shifting control. Couple this to a 6.4L V8 HEMI® and you have a street SUV achieving 0-60 in 4.8 seconds and 60 MPH in 116 feet and a top speed of 160 MPH. That’s a lot of power.
Powerful Engine and Transmission
The 6.4L V8 HEMI® with Fuel Saver Technology is the power under the hood. Producing 470 horsepower it has the power and acceleration to perform to the highest of accelerator demands. When cruising the Fuel Saver Technology takes over and reduces the number of cylinders from 8 to 4. There by saving on fuel and reducing the cost of the trip.
The all new 8-speed transmission available in the Grand Cherokee SRT does not come with the customary center console shift lever. The console shift has an “S” position that changes the shift map for more aggressive driving. With the paddle shifters on the steering wheel the driver has full control of the transmission. Selecting the normal “D” on the shift leaver gives shifting control to the transmission. Designed with a lower 1st gear to provide faster acceleration from a standing start it also has an “Eco” button to save fuel. When activated the transmission starts from second gear. If you are not in a hurry to get to the next red light use this mode and stay away from the gas pump.
Superior Braking Technology
Having described a more powerful engine with a transmission to accelerate to higher speeds faster we now need to stop. The SRT has a superior high performance braking design . The Brembo® braking system was selected to make stopping fast a safe and reliable act to achieve. For those who have an understanding of a high performance breaking system the front rooters are 15 inches supported by six piston calipers. The rear brakes are 13.8 inch rotors and four piston calipers. So, if you are racing around a track, coming down a mountain, or driving on a city street the power and performance of these outstanding brakes will provide that edge of reliability not found in a standard breaking system.
